An explorative conversation on anniversary legacy building and how new models are aiming to achieve stronger and more equitable cities. Panelists include Paul Farber (Monument Lab), Cathy Cahill (The Mann Center), Tya Winn (Community Design Collaborative), Danielle DiLeo Kim (PHILADELPHIA250) and moderator, Roxanne Patel Shepelavey (The Philadelphia Citizen). The panel and workshop coincide with PHILADELPHIA250’s launch of a public call for impact projects, “Leave a Legacy.”
Philadelphia has always played a major role in hosting previous national anniversaries from 1876, 1926, and 1976, and soon to be 2026, with the 250th anniversary. With each one, special buildings or monuments were constructed as legacy projects such as Memorial Hall, Benjamin Franklin Bridge and the African American Museum of Philadelphia. With all eyes on Philadelphia in 2026, PHILADELPHIA250, the coordinator of the city’s commemoration plans, is evolving how Philadelphia has previously approached anniversary legacy building by launching a public call for bold ideas and projects that promise to leave a lasting impact in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. The “Leave a Legacy” public call opens February 16, 2022 for all Philadelphians to contribute to the 250th and how we achieve a more equitable, just and resilient city in 2026 and beyond.
The panel discussion will be followed by an information workshop where participants can learn more on the submission process for Leave a Legacy.
